Trenches formed by two earthquakes more than one hundred years ago were not filled back in, these columns of earth have been given free reign. An interesting fact: although they are chiselled out of stone, they change constantly. Tip: they appear particularly mystical very early in the morning …
If you are looking for refreshment, you are in the right place. At first it is hidden from your eyes, but you can hear it quite well – three imposing waterfalls plunge into the canyon. The best view can be reached taking the Sant Francis’ Path, along a forest path and wooden stairs.
Toblacher See is one of the most popular lakes for the whole family. The lake can be circled along the newly created, interactive natural trail or discovered from a pedal boat. The mountain lake is too cold for swimming, but it is perfect for splashing around with your feet.
It is well known as the “most beautiful mountain lake in the Dolomites” – and not without reason. The water sparkles in the blue green shadows and the surrounding rock walls close in the lake. You can walk around the lake or discover it in a cosy paddle boat. Tip: it is better to visit the lake during the week and not during high season, as it can get quite crowded …
Are you ready for an exciting trip through time? Then step inside the most beautiful open-air museum in Europe – the Museum of Folk Culture in Dietenheim. Run-of-the-mill is a thing of the past, today you can experience interactively and up close how people used to live, love and work in South Tyrol. A destination for all ages.
You can't miss the Taufers Castle: it is enthroned on an impressive cliff above Sand in Taufers and offers more than 20 display rooms. These include the knights’ hall, library, chapel, the “armoury you can touch” and of course also a haunted room. The castle can be visited with or without a guide. Who knows, perhaps you can even see a wandering ghost ;-)
From the centre of the Welsberger village, a hiking adventure will take you up to the highest mountain in Hochpustertal. The castle complex is the private property of Count Thun-Hohenstein-Welsperg and can be visited.
In the medieval Bruneck Castle, you can visit the fifth of the six Messner Mountain Museums. The MMM Ripa is dedicated to the topic of mountain people around the world and their adverse living conditions on the mountain.
The Kronplatz mountain offers adventure not only in the winter but also during the summer. The mountain train brings you into a large hiking area with so many surprises, such as the Messner Mountain Museum “Corones”, the new Lumen Museum for Mountain Photography, Kronfly tandem flights, the Skyscraper, the Adventure Park and much more …
